Beef, palm oil and soy power 21st‑century deforestation
A new analysis shows beef alone caused 41% of tropical forest loss since 2001, more than two UK‑sized areas this century. Oilseeds (mostly soy and palm oil) and forest plantations round out the top drivers, with half of beef‑related clearing happening in Brazil’s Amazon and Cerrado. The data pinpoint which commodities and regions to target for climate‑friendly policies.
