ICAR to sign MoU with Corteva, unlocking first gene‑edited rice
ICAR is set to sign a memorandum of understanding this month with US‑based Corteva, the holder of the CRISPR‑Cas9 license, paving the way for cultivation of Pusa DST Rice 1, India’s first gene‑edited rice variety. The variety, engineered for drought and salinity tolerance, promises yields up to 40% higher than conventional seeds, offering a climate‑resilient boost for millions of rabi‑season farmers.
