LLMs Over‑Help Students, Struggle to Hold Back, New TutorMoments Study Shows
AllenAI’s TutorMoments framework replays real K‑12 math tutoring sessions to test whether LLMs can judge when to intervene or let students wrestle with a problem. Across the dataset, models consistently over‑help, giving too much scaffolding, even when prompted to balance help versus challenge. The team releases the de‑identified transcript set, code, and model replays for open research.
