ICE collected nearly a million DNA samples last year and fed them into the FBI's CODIS criminal database. The swabs were taken under civil immigration authority, not criminal cause, yet they remain searchable against crime-scene DNA forever. Georgetown Law researchers project DHS detainee profiles could top a third of CODIS's "Offender" index by 2030, up from 0.2% in 2020.
