Tata, HCL and CG Power put real money behind India's chip push
India's semiconductor bet has moved past promises. Since January 2025, Tata Electronics, Murugappa's CG Power and HCL have committed projects worth ₹1.29 trillion under the India Semiconductor Mission, injecting ₹4,157 crore so far. CG's Sanand plant is already shipping commercial chips, and construction is underway on Tata's Dholera fab and the HCL-Foxconn Jewar unit. With subsidies covering up to 70% of costs, India's oldest industrial houses are becoming the anchor investors this ecosystem needed.
