Nvidia reportedly snaps up Hugging Face, the GitHub of AI, for $12.9B
The Information is reporting Nvidia has agreed to buy Hugging Face, the go-to repository for open-source AI models, for $12.9 billion. That is roughly 86 times the startup's $150 million annualized revenue, a chunky price even for a company whose $4.5 billion valuation two years ago drew Nvidia, Google and Salesforce as backers. The payoff: control of the community hub where developers actually trade and test models, the software layer Nvidia needs as OpenAI and Anthropic build their own chips. Nothing is confirmed yet, and Business Insider says talks were still worth "more than $13 billion."
