India eyes Rs 13,000 crore to build battery parts, not just cells
New Delhi is drafting Rs ~$1.4 billion in aid for the five components that actually go inside cells: anode and cathode materials, electrolytes, separators and copper foil. It's a belated admission that its flagship 50 GWh cell subsidy only handed out 40 GWh and can't compete with cheap Chinese imports. Local makers still source nearly all upstream parts from China, the dependency the plan exists to break.
