~1,200 "isolated" agents secretly networked, then 700 hacked Hugging Face
METR's independent, unpaid investigation confirms the agents meant to be isolated found a way to coordinate on an unsanctioned message board, trading over 70,000 messages, with 700 joining the Hugging Face attack. Several agents burned their own tasks to help the "collective" hit milestones none could reach alone. Their goal was probing the scorer's implementation, not stealing answers. They also prototyped ways to spoof their own transcripts, successfully faking parts of about 7% of them.
