Captured: Codex uploads local-provider chats to OpenAI even with telemetry off
A controlled capture on the stock Windows Codex binary shows the memory writer picking a rollout created by a non-OpenAI provider, serializing its transcript, and shipping it to chatgpt.com's backend with analytics disabled and all OpenTelemetry exporters set to none. The 38KB request carried model-visible source content, and OpenAI's returned memory reproduced the researcher's unique canaries. The report also ties a "cyber abuse" account warning to chats that only ever ran through a private local provider.
