AI’s Next Bottleneck Is the Power Stack, Not Generation

A July fault in Ashburn, Virginia, abruptly shed more than 3 gigawatts, while a 2024 incident disconnected roughly 60 facilities and 1,500 megawatts. The problem is not only building more generation: AI campuses can swing 70% of their load in milliseconds, and legacy protection systems can trip at precisely the wrong moment. Moving power conditioning and protection higher in the electrical stack could improve reliability, density, permitting timelines, and backup economics.
