California turns AI audits into a legal requirement
The hard part of AI safety is no longer writing principles. It is proving that systems meet them. California’s SB 813 and AB 1405 create independent verification organizations, register AI auditors, and set rules for their independence and transparency, pushing model accountability toward something closer to regulated assurance than voluntary disclosure. That framework will matter most as AI moves deeper into critical services and public life.
