AI agents need context, not just permissions, to stay trustworthy
Google Research’s new workshop report argues that useful AI agents must judge whether a data flow or action fits its social context, not simply obey access permissions. Grounded in Contextual Integrity, the report treats privacy as “appropriate information flow” and maps open problems across system, model, user, and ecosystem levels. More than 50 academic and industry leaders contributed to the report after a 2025 CAPS workshop.
