OpenAI brings text watermarking to EU ChatGPT, keeps API opt-in
OpenAI will add invisible watermarks to eligible ChatGPT and Codex text in the EU over coming weeks, while API customers globally can opt in for select models. The signal, called textGrain, changes word choices statistically and a detector checks for it, but OpenAI says strong test performance does not ensure reliable everyday detection. Detector access initially starts with approved researchers and expert organizations, with plans to open-source the technology.
