USA Today seeks $250 million from OpenAI over AI training
USA Today Co. and several newspapers it owns are seeking more than $250 million from OpenAI, plus a court order blocking the alleged infringement, putting another major publisher challenge in front of Manhattan’s federal court. The complaint says OpenAI copied hundreds of thousands of articles and other materials without permission to train the systems behind ChatGPT. OpenAI argues such use can be fair use because the systems transform copyrighted material into something new, but it had not responded to the complaint when Reuters published its report.
