Claude’s overnight decompilation turns game ports into IP whack-a-mole
Claude Opus 5.5 has made browser ports of games such as Halo: CE, GTA: Vice City, and The Simpsons: Hit & Run fast enough to threaten the old takedown model. The model can work overnight on reconstructing a game from its code, where the same job once took coders months. Kotaku found some ports nearly flawless, including one Halo version with working online servers and a Simpsons version reaching 240fps, raising a legal whack-a-mole problem for publishers.
