Acadia, now in public alpha, is a typed, functional language that compiles to SQL: custom types, compiler-verified migrations, and end-to-end type safety for SQLite-backed apps, with better errors instead of runtime type surprises. It's a fresh answer to hand-written SQL for a database that famously checks types late.
Volcengine open-sourced a context database for AI agents that stores memories, resources, and skills under a viking:// virtual filesystem, browsable with ls/tree/find instead of opaque vector queries. Tiered L0/L1/L2 loading cuts token spend, and every retrieval keeps a debuggable traversal path. Got it: context becomes deterministic and observable.
DuckDB 2.0 (fall 2025) turns the in-process analytics engine into a networked server via the Quack protocol and CONNECT, which can also push SQL to PostgreSQL and MySQL. Also coming: triggers, VARIANT, async I/O, a reworked C API, and a new default storage format.
TrueFoundry open sourced TrueForge, an agent harness pitched as an alternative to Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents. It targets any model or MCP server, not one vendor's stack, and claims roughly 50% lower agent operating costs by letting teams pick the cheapest model per task.
